What If It Rains?
Zoo Town Surfers goes rafting and kayaking rain or shine. The only time we cancel a trip is due to a major thunder or lightening storm. If we do cancel a trip, you can hang out at Crystal Springs, our headquarters, which is located 10 minutes from the Alberton Gorge put-in and take-out.What Should I Wear?

  • Tennis shoes or river sandals
  • Hat to block the sun
  • Sunscreen
  • Nylon, poly, or fleece shirt (anything but cotton)
  • Bathing suit
  • Sunglasses straps
  • Dry clothes for after

Do I Need Any Kayak Experience Prior To Taking A Zoo Town Surfer Class or Lesson?
The answer is NO! We teach all levels of kayaking from beginner to advance. We have the best kayaking instructors in the Missoula Valley. Whether you’re a beginner or want to learn the newest freestyle kayaking moves our staff will be able to determine what’s best for you.

Can We Bring Our Dog?
We do not allow dogs in the rafts. We do have a shaded kennel at Crystal Springs, but we recommend that you leave your furry friend at home if that is an option. Please let us know if you are bringing a dog so we can let our shop dogs know they have guests coming!!

How Safe Is Rafting?
Statistically, your drive here is more dangerous than rafting down the rivers we operate on. We provide you with thorough instruction, safety equipment and the best service possible. Zoo Town Surfers has a perfect safety record, but rafting like all outdoor activities comes with some risk. A signed acknowledgment of risk and liability release is a prerequisite to rafting with any company.

Do We Have To Paddle?
At Zoo Town Surfers, we have the skills to take you down the river without even paddling. If you just want to enjoy the scenery and relax, we can do that. If you want to work on team building and paddle the whole way that’s fine too. Remember, it’s your trip suited to your pace and adventure.

Does Everyone Have To Know How To Swim?
Each person is issued a Type V whitewater lifejacket which must be worn at all times on the river. These jackets are designed so that if someone did absolutely nothing in the water, they would float with their chest up and head above water. We provide detailed instructions before each trip regarding how to float and what to do should you fall out of the boat.

Can I Request A Guide?
Heck yea you can. We have the best guides in Missoula so it’s pretty common that people request the same guides year after year.

Should I Tip My Guide?
Our guides don’t expect tips but they are appreciated. “If you enjoy your ride, tip your guide”

What Is Your Cancellation Policy?
Payment is required in full.  Cancellations made 48 hours or more before the date of your trip, will receive a full refund.  Refunds will not be issued for cancellations made within 48 hours of a trip’s departure time.  ZTS reserves the right to cancel a trip at any time if faced with unsuitable or unsafe weather or river conditions.  If ZTS is forced to cancel a trip, you will be notified immediately and a full refund or alternative booking will be arranged.
