Half Day
Crystal clear water, emerald pools, and the river made famous by A River Runs Through It.
Overview
The Blackfoot Half Day floats the river Norman Maclean made famous. In early spring this stretch runs as a fun Class III whitewater trip with splashy wave trains; by mid-summer it mellows into a scenic float with smaller rapids between long, slow pools. Either way, it's one of the most beautiful rivers in western Montana — clear water, granite bedrock, and the kind of valley that makes you understand why people write books about it. Wildlife is part of the trip: ospreys, bald eagles, and the occasional moose or bighorn along the banks. Your guide rigs the boat, runs the lines, and shares the area's history — from the Nez Perce trail Lewis followed in 1806 to the 2008 removal of the Milltown Dam that reconnected the Blackfoot and Clark Fork. Best for groups who want scenic beauty with a side of whitewater.
