ZTS History
How a love for rivers became Montana’s most adventurous outfitter.
Zoo Town Surfers grew out of a small group of passionate river enthusiasts committed to sharing whitewater experiences on the rivers around Missoula — nicknamed “Zoo Town.” What started as a small collective has expanded into a leading regional adventure provider, running trips on Alberton Gorge, the Lochsa River, the Bitterroot River, and the Clark Fork.
Our mission is simple: get more people on the river. We serve newcomers seeking a thrilling introduction to whitewater and experienced paddlers pursuing advanced challenges alike, always prioritizing safety, sustainability, and enthusiasm for the sport.
Today we offer rafting, river surfing, packrafting, kayaking, overnight trips, group programs, and instructional courses — all run under special use permits from the US Forest Service, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, and the Bureau of Land Management.
