White Water Trips

If whitewater excitement is what you are looking for, you’ve come to the right place because we can take you to the best Missoula has to offer. Our two most popular options are the Alberton Gorge of the Clark Fork River and the Blackfoot River Corridor. Each of these trips provide our guests with the opportunity to explore the beauty of the region’s wild places, when not navigating Class II – IV whitewater, that is! Rapids in these categories are perfect for the recreational enthusiast, offering exhilarating waves and rapids, all within a safe range of risk and adventure under the care of our expert staff. Spending time with friends and family on a journey down a wild canyon in Montana is as good as it gets.

The following river excursions describe the best whitewater sections in the Missoula Valley and are listed from mild to wild.

Blackfoot River

The Blackfoot is a great introductory whitewater trip combining amazing scenery and wildlife with fun Class I-II(III) whitewater. Close to Missoula, it is easily accessible for a half-day float, full-day float, or a two-day overnight trip for those who wish to spend the night alongside the river in the outdoors. Traveling through the beautiful Blackfoot River Corridor, our guides will work to keep you safe and dry or steer you through the wettest ride possible — it’s up to you. In May and early-June the river can run fast for a more exciting ride or, if you wish, toward the mid-summer months the water drops for a more casual summer ride emphasizing fun swimming holes, sun, and a meandering streambed through Montana wilderness.

The Alberton Gorge, Clark Fork River

The beautiful Alberton Gorge of the Clark Fork River is Missoula’s crown jewel of whitewater, lined with spectacular canyon walls, wildlife, and rapids! This section of river is filled with numerous Class I-III drops that offer excitement from May through August. With names like Davey Jones’s Locker, Triple Bridges, Tumbleweed, Boat Eater and Fang, the rapids will keep your attention between the easier pools lining the length of the canyon. Due to the large volume nature of the Clark Fork and its streambed, you will always find enough water for a good time in the Alberton Gorge, even when other rivers in the surrounding area have long since dried up.

Our Crystal Springs headquarters, along the length of the canyon, is our base of operations and gives us the advantage of keeping an eye on the river’s action and beauty — right from our doorstep. Meeting all of our clients at Crystal Springs, we also offer the option of post-float barbeques perfect for family get-togethers or company outings. Come visit us for a day of whitewater on the Gorge, we’re there every day, all summer long!
